Cumnock Men’s Shed has lost one of the original members of the Cumnock Mens Shed in Don Austin.

Don was one of those guys who just got on with the job; he was always learning and doing things that needed to be done. From making shelves to splitting chips, Don simply got the job done. In the last months, he would come for morning tea and, before going to lunch, would split a bag full of pine chips because he wanted to do something. Don was also part of the team building the kitchen in our Mens Shed, which was a great bonding experience for all involved. Further to his many talents, he was our resident painter at 90 years of age, and the equipment was always cleaned up as part of the maintenance program.

On the occasion of his 90th birthday, his family gave him an iPad to keep him in touch with them. He made it known in a very quiet way how he was given lots of help to master the new technology.
Don did know his limits and did not use the bandsaw or the dropsaw, but did know how to use a hammer and a broom to clean up after others.
Vale Don Austin. He will be greatly missed.
